Diablo is an multi-player, online video game created by Blizzard and released in December of 1996. The back story of Diablo begins with Heaven and Hell where Angels and Demons waged a war for centuries, until the ascension of man. A treacherous mutiny forced the 3 Lords of Hell (including Diablo himself) into the world of humanity. Finally, a group of magi, with the help from Archangel Tyrael, trapped the 3 Lords of Hell in soulstones. Diablo's soulstone was buried deep in the earth and a monastery was built over the site to safeguard the entrance. After generations passed and the purpose of the monastery was forgotten, a small town named Tristram springs up next to the monastery's ruins. A religious king named Leoric then claims the monastery and rebuilds it as a cathedral for his seat of power. Diablo entered the nightmares of the archbishop Lazarus and lures him to the soulstone, where he destroyed the stone. Diablo is released, and possesses the royal family and begins to reek havoc in the town. Tristram became a town of fear and horror, where people are abducted in the night. Diablo II and Diablo III further the adventures in Tristam.

The class choices in Diablo are Warrior, Rogue, and the Sorcerer (the Monk was added in the expansion set Diablo: Hellfire). In Diablo II, the class choices are Amazon, Necromancer, Barbarian, Sorceress, and Paladin (Druid and Assassin classes were released in the expansion). In Diablo III the class choices are Witch Doctor, Barbarian, Wizard, Monk, and Demon Hunter.
