Sinestro first appearence was in Green Lantern (vol. 2) #7 (August 1961). Thaal Sinestro was once part of the Green Lantern Corps and the mentor and instructor of Hal Jordan. Using the power of the Green Lantern to instill fear, Sinestro was banished by the Guardians to the Antimatter world of Qward. Escaping his prison, Sinestro figured out the color yellow is Green Lantern Corps weakness and created a yellow ring counterpart of the green ring.

Thaal Sinestro is the supervillian leader of the Sinestro Corps.
